This weekend was a special weekend as we went to visit Jeff's grand parents in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Cub and Bette Jean are 91 and 89 years old and are such troopers...but we have known this for a while. Almost 9 years ago, when Jeff and I got married they drove up to Canada in their RV for our wedding!
This weekend seemed liked the perfect weekend to introduce them to their new great grand son. So we headed to Arkansas. This was going to be our first long (normally should take about 5 hours) car trip with both kids. We were prepared with our brand new portable DVD player and new DVDs to try to occupy Emma as long as possible. Well after a 45 minutes late start (I forgot how much stuff you have to bring with new babies), 1 stop to eat dinner, 1 stop to get gas and change the kids into their PJs, 2 breastfeeding stops, and 1 missed exit that made our trip 1 hour longer....it took us about 10 hours. But it was all worth it! It was fantastic to be able to see Cub and Bette Jean interact with Lucas and Emma and to capture it on camera of course.
On Friday we went to a great playground right down the street from Cub and Betty Jean's house. Emma wanted to go on the swing, actually on about 3 different swings, but finally moved onto the slides. We have never seen Emma have so much fun on the slide. We had a great dinner at a Mexican place.
The rain on Saturday didn't keep Emma away from the slide. We found a bright opening in the day, and took it. For dinner, we had a great pork tenderloin topped with Jo's Glazing Sauce, Betty Jean's Salad and an apple pie. We were stuffed!
Unfortunatley, we had to drive back home this morning, but you will be happy to know it only took us 7 hours. We had a few stops, but it seems everyone was tired out from the weekend and slept most of the way.
