Parenthood

I have been a mom for the past 18 months, but it is not until this past weekend that I felt like a parent. Let me tell you how I came to realize that I was not only a mom but a parent too. As we were driving to Emma's first swim lesson with my husband and two kids in the car I realized that from now on this was our family...a family of 4!!! Since I had giving birth less than 2 weeks before, my body was not ready to be in a bathing suit just yet, so I had to let Jeff do the swim lesson with Emma (I was a little jealous but so happy for them to share that special moment between daughter and father). You should have seen the sparkles in their eyes! I couldn't tell you who enjoyed the lesson more. Emma did so well and of course was a natural:) As I was watching her this wave of emotions came to me and I will admit it, I almost started crying (I think I can blame the pregnancy/postpartum hormones for this). On the drive back home I realized that our lives will never be the same.... I know most of you are probably thinking that it took me a while to realize this! But as of now our lives had not changed all that much. Of course we had Emma and loved and cared for another human being but we still had our little routine and our little girl came along where ever we went. Back to the drive home... I saw the next 20 years flash in front of my eyes. Going from activities to activities (wether it is swim practice, piano lesson, soccer games, birthday parties it really does not matter) to try to expose our kids to as much as possible mean while making them well rounded individuals. As I am looking forward to Saturday mornings and the swim lesson, I realized that we are entering a new phase of our lives... I am looking foward to the next 20 years to see how our lives and family will unfold!!!

Lucas has been such an easy baby so far. He is doing fantastic! He had a little bit of jaundice but nothing to worry about. He has been doing his work very well... eat, poop, and sleep!!! At his 2 weeks appointment he was back to his birth weight and had grown a little bit! He is starting to stay awake for longer period of time and is looking around all the time.
